9N Ignition

I'm working on a 1940 9N with front mount distributor.
The tractor is new to me, I bought it nonrunning.
The p/o converted it to 12 volt positive ground and
installed a Pertronix Ignitor ignition.I don't think
it ever ran with this alteration.
In chasing the no spark condition I found the spring
connector and the silver tab on bottom of coil bent over
and making no connection. The button on the dist.cap was
rusty with no connection possible. There was no gasket
between coil and cap. The ign. module has one wire connected
to the brass terminal with the condenser and the other wire
is cut off.
I contacted Pertronix for instructions and help and I'm waiting
to hear from them.
I checked for resistance and continuity across the terminals
of the coil and got 1.7ohms from the stud to the spring and
nothing at the other terminals. Is this right?
I've got a new cap and gaskets on the way so it will be awhile
before I can work on it.
Thanks for any help.

"The p/o converted it to 12 volt positive ground " Are you sure it is pos ground. Most if not all modern alternators require neg ground as does the pertronix unit.

Sounds like a mess to me. 12v Positive ground is very rare. Unless the Pertronix matches that positive ground & voltage it is or will be toast. Pertronix model number? May be on bottom of module. No condenser is used with Pertronix. What are module wire colors? Cut off module wire???

(quoted from post at 23:06:13 03/05/18) There's no model # shown.
There's a "Lot#27AG-NV5" on the side by the rotor.
The colors are Black and red. The red is cut off.

ure not going to work with one wire!

HCooke, Pertronix sells 12 volt positive ground system.
Here is an ebay listing for one. No guarantee the info is correct, but seems possible.

I heard back from Pertronix. They sent me the installation and trouble
shooting instructions.
Is 1.7 ohms a good reading for the coil?
There is no markings as to weather it is a 6 or 12 volt coil.
Will that resistance value tell?
Thanks

.7 good value for a 6v coil

Thanks for the reply.
At least the coil is good. I disassembled the dist. and
found too much slop in the rear bushing. So time for a new dist.
I'm going to wire up this one and see if the Pertronix works.
I still don't know if the tractor will run. If I can't get the
dist. to work, I'll see if I can barrow one to check out the
tractor.
Thanks for the help.
