Has anyone used a three point bucket on
there 8n? I came across one and think it
may be handy to move small loads of dirt
compost sand ect. What are they worth?

They work good when used as designed. Some are reversible,
so you can either pull them or push them, others are not.
Then of course there are different brands. Some better than others.
The cheaper TSC style reversible ones sell for around $150 here.
A Ford brand reversible around $200 if its in good shape.

This style reversible is $300 new at northern tool.

Singin'

((( She's My Little Dirt Scoop ))) :)

The rope dumps it and it's reversible.
Sweetheart deal together with a complete Ford 110 single Bottom Plow for $150. Bucket was a fixer upper -- had to restore trip lever rest on the back of the bucket and added springs to lever above.

I have a reversible one myself and it's about the handiest thing I have, it digs, it carries tools, it smooths loose dirt, it hauls wood and rocks, ect. ect........ 8)

I bought a used TSC version for $80 several years ago. As said below, a VERY handy accessory. I would caution trying to back too vigorously into a pile of hard dirt. Even with sway braces, the 3 point lift was designed to pull.

I've used one for around 60 years. The reversible was the best thing they ever did to them! They bring $75-$100 if non- & around $200 if reversible in my part of Iowa. My dirt moving "arsenal" includes a rear blade, 4' box blade, & Ford reversible scoop. It is amazing what you can move & shape!

this is the one I am looking at.

Many years ago I built one like Royse shows for about $35, and it is my handiest attachment. I always use it backing up. I have two front-end loaders but haven't even mounted them since building the scoop. I use my scoop for hauling black dirt, crushed rock, landscaplng stones, firewood and miscellaneous stuff. I bought another in a package deal (1950 8N, brush cutter, plow, rear blade, scoop) but have it at my son's place and haven't used it. They are really handy items.

had one years ago. good thing to have. check for sharpness of cutting edge and for holes in bottom of bucket.

I have one of the style Royce is showing. I use mine though not very often, it works just fine for small loads.

This guy seems to be making good use of his.

John,

I was backing up and over a clay pile I was chewing away at with the rear blade and I bumped a tree with the blade end, enough to jam my blade rotating plate pin. I feared for my lower link pin at the differential, but it was OK and I was glad I had rigid sway bars on rather than just chains because they share that stress..

When backing up you can run into immovable objects you didn't know were there so I only use the scoop in back up mode when I know there's nothing fixed in the pile in the pile backing into.

Nonfarmer,

That's a good looking scoop and has a bucket like mine. I don't think they are as good at digging as the narrow scoops with the higher sides, but mine does a great job of shaving a few inches at a time from hard ground.

Another thumbs up for a rear scoop.
You wont use them all the time but they are very handy when you need one.
And that model Ford scoop is very good.
Some guys want and need a loader on their tractor. I don't often need a loader so dont want to turn my otherwise nimble tractor into a dreadnaught by having a loader on it.
Between a rear scoop and a boom pole I get along by pretty well without one.
$150 is in the zone.

(quoted from post at 19:05:16 03/01/18) Yup, been there. Also, pulling to cut, you are adding weight for traction. Pushing to dig is not.

Interesting!
So when [b:c13e9c763d]pushing[/b:c13e9c763d] the bucket I'm almost and [i:c13e9c763d]actually[/i:c13e9c763d] if digging deep enough, taking weight OFF the rear wheels.

Appears to be a Ford model 706. I've had a few of these and they are good scoops. Reversible, the handle is removable and put it the other pipe for reversing. Most of the times one or both pipes are broke off and rewelded or missing. I see you have both and the handle. Another thing to check is where it locks into place for wear. Check edge and bucket. It appears to be in good shape from the photo.
The poor man's loader is a very useful implement for not a lot of money.

well I wound up with this scoop, last night, along with a 72" finish mower for a price I couldn't refuse(basically, got the scoop for nearly nothing). thank you all for your help.

This one's not too far from me. I was thinking about one as well for my 41 9N.

Nice one!
He's probably expecting $250, but figures that the $100 paint job will net him $350. :)

If you get one, park it with a 4x4 under the back edge of the bucket so the water runs out.

I have had three or four rear buckets over the years,
by far the ford 706 is the best one I have owned.
it was blue, but I repainted it red,

works good forward and in reverse,
but be sure to use side stabilizer bars if you are backing into the dirt, you can bend your lower arms if not using stabilizer bars when backing.
