Need ORC on PTO with live hydraulics?

I know this is probably a dumb question, but I have heard that if your tractor has live hydraulics you don't need to use an ORC on your PTO. Is that correct, and why is that? Thanks a lot.

You are confusing "live hydraulics" with "live PTO".

"Live PTO" eliminates the need for an ORC, "live hydraulics" do not.

Thanks, Bob (I guess!). Maybe I'm dumber than I thought! I don't know the difference between live hydraulics and a live PTO, ha, ha.

What Bob said.

Live hydraulics means the hydraulic pump is engine driven and your lift will continue to work as long as the engine is running regardless of clutch or transmission position.

The N series hydraulic pump was PTO driven and after the clutch meaning it stopped pumping when you depressed the clutch pedal.

live hyds aren't effected by the clutch. Live pto is effected by the clutch at full press, in the case of a 2 stage clutch. ( and independent pto is live vi a different clutch pack other than the foot clutch )

Live hydraulics - Hydraulic lift works independently of clutch. On 9,2,8 Ns the hydraulics only work when the clutch is engaged. NAA and later Ford tractors have live hydraulics.

Live PTO - PTO works independently of the clutch. NAA, 600, 601s etc do not have live PTO. You step on the clutch and the PTO stops. There was a live PTO option for NAAs but it is not common.

I don't think it was dumb.
The pto and hydraulics on an N are so closely related that it's easy to think of them as one function of the tractor.
As said below, the pto and hydraulic functions on the Jubilee and newer are entirely seperated from one another.
By the way, there are three different types of pto.
Transmission, live and independent.
Transmission pto is the only one that requires an orc.

To be more precise many tractors with transmission PTO's do not require an external ORC - they are built in.

(quoted from post at 11:56:12 02/28/18) I did not know that.
New stuff?
Old ones!
Brands? models?

ONE example of a tractor with an internal ORC that hangs around my place is my renter's little 850 "YanDeere".

Parts 16, 19, and 20.

(quoted from post at 14:52:20 02/28/18) Do Kubotas Not have live or independent pto?

In the current lineup live PTO's are standard on all all HST tractors right down to the sub-compacts. There are a couple mid-range gear drive models that have a transmission PTO with internal ORC. Larger gear drive models (B35xx and up) come standard with independent PTO.

Transmission PTO's were more common on older gear drive models but they had internal ORC's. Independent PTO was also available as an option on some of them. Independent PTO has been standard on most if not all HST machines for 30+ years.
