Snow blowing

Here is a picture of my snow blower. Erskine/Berger Mfg. built in about 1948 or 49 on my dad's 48 8n.Blower was 5' but widened to 7'

I like it. 2 pillow block bearings and 2 u-joints make it pretty simple. I have had it since 1972 and haven't replaced any parts yet. I sold the jungle gym loader and was happy to see it go. My dad had one of these blowers new in about 1951 so I am quite familiar with them. His was on an E-3 Co-op. I would like a few more hp. at times but with 3 point you can leave some snow and catch it the next time. I might post pix of the lot I did at work later today.

With a foot of sticky snow those blowers will either take all the HP your tractor has and want more or it will plug up so tight you'll spend a quarter hour digging the snow out. BTDTGTS

Those Erskin blowers are nice! Company is still around but now mostly manufactures equipment for skid loaders. A fellow I rent some grazing land used to be an account rep for them here in Alexandria.

Yes, wet sticky snow and many snow blowers don't work well. Sometimes early morning before temps rise work best.

Ebay has a picture of the old Erskine/Berger Mfg. brick building listed. Years ago used to work on a race car and were in Alex a lot. Also Sauk at the old track (before the south one)

Nice, so you know the area pretty well. The south track closed a few years back in Sauk. Did you know Scott Hillig by any chance? He would have been racing in the early 90s, I think.

I have heard the name. We raced central Mn. in the early 70's. My oldest son lives in St. Cloud. In the late 90's I was parts manager at GATR Volvo in Sauk Rapids.

Yes it sticks out wider than the tires and works well to shave the banks when it gets deep. You might not take a big cut but persistence pays off. Still a lot better than a loader IMHO. Not that there isn't a place for a loader but if there is a lot of wind and drifting its better to blow it than pile it and have bigger problems.
I have even used this one in towns for peoples driveways. It is nice it doesn't blow the snow too far (watch for windows, ect.)

That would have been before Scott's time. He's probably in his early 50s now. Sure, I know GATR Volvo. I drive past there a couple of times a week on Hwy 10.

Enjoy the snow! I think we're going to get quite a bit starting tonight.

I have one of those blowers also and love it. Use it on a 1964 Massy 35. Works great in low range. Used it on my 8n but Massy has low ranger and it works better. Bill

They still command a decent price. Watched one go for $175 last spring at an auction here in Long Prairie.

Funny, I have an 8' 2 stage double auger snow blower I use behind a 1206 Farmall. You can plug that one up tighter than a tick too.

Friend of mine bought an 8N that came with a 3 point finish mower, rear blade, 4' brush cutter and a pull type snow blower. His cost to purchase? 1800. Sad part is he snowbirds so he doesn't use the blower.
