The magical disappearing freeze plug

Just returned from running my 2N for the first time in just over a month. Checked fluids before she started, all looked and smelled good. Started fine, ran strong without stumbling.

Hauled some bagged manure over to my garden plot and drove over to hook up my disk and I noticed smoking from the left side of the engine. Turn her off but the engine was in a run-on condition for about 10 seconds, stumbling not at full idle, and the fuel was turned off right after the ignition.

There used to be a freeze plug behind and slightly foreward of the oil filter. Used to be.

Coolant mix was 50/50 and changed last fall.

So what should I be looking at first?
