splitting an 8n

Its not too bad of a job to split one.
I would recommend good wooden cribbing and an overhead crane
or cherry picker if available. If they are not, trailer jacks can have
a plate added to bolt to the housings. Hobo did that and I copied
his idea. He may have a pic. I have this one of my cribbing.

To replace gears, you will have to split it at both ends of the transmission. I did one like that a few years ago, not hard at all, Think i was 70 or so when I did that one.
Keep it safe.

It's not a bad job to split one nor to
replace a few gears.
Here's a photo of some of the tools I used
when I did a similar job on mine. They did
make the job go easier.

Hey UD I try blowing up your photo and thought I seen the Ford script on the side of that hatchet. Must have been part of the Ford tool kit.

Good one Jerry. Just so you know - my 3000 fenders are spectacular. There is one tiny flaw, but if anyone sees it they are looking way to close. I am going to do the back end blue next.

Is that Smith and Wesson a model 19?

It's funny you ask about splitting the 8n as I just finished mine up this morning. When I bought the tractor it had no 3rd gear so I made a low ball offer and he took it,come to find out third gear was just in bassakwards,so I grabbed some gaskets and other stuff to replace while I was in there.I split the tractor without removing the hood as per the instuctions in the Ford F04 shop manuel, everything went real smooth,it took me about 10 hours to do the job.I blocked the engine at the pan, then pulled the transmission and rear end back.then blocked the rear end and pushed the trans forward

This is the one I used to split and, add a my Sherman hi-lo. It was perfect. I did the whole job by myself, in one day. Making the shifter hole was the most time consuming part.

Most of the tools are self explanatory
but is there any specific caliber?
