Anybody know this feeling

(quoted from post at 15:44:33 01/20/18) Elated that it started?
Every time something starts around here like it's supposed to.

I have often thought that it ran just fine when I parked it, why won't it run now? I actually found that a tractor, which this happens to, is out of gas. That makes me think it was sipping the last teaspoon of gas when I shut off the engine. That, or someone syphoned the tank empty during the night.

Southeast Old Threshers’ Reunion has a two cylinder diesel engine that was the power plant for an old cotton mill. It is probably 10+ft. tall with a bore of 18in. and stroke of 2ft.or more. It is usually started with compressed air supplied by a big a$$ compressor run powered by a big hit and miss motor. One year they could not get the hit and miss to start, so they went to the alternate start method. Just like in the clip, they used an explosive device to start it. Instead of a shotgun shell it was one quarter sitck of dynamite. Put it in the hole, closed it up just like in the video, lit about a 3in. fuse and una$$ed the area. Big boom and that old engine fired up and never missed a beat. Quite a feat to see.

Imagine the early years of automobiles that were 6 volts, no multigrade oil , cranked slow and you had to worry about flooding the engine. Not many warm garages back then either. Dad got up during the night to start and warm his car so it would hopefully start in morning so he could get to work.
