Control lever help

After replacing the ram cylinder in my 1952 8N the control lever is not working. It looks like it moves up and down. I can move the control arm by hand and everything works. Any idea what to do next.

You could have a bad friction disc or the control rod is loose from the pump. Take the inspection plate w/ the dipstick off. Reach in & make sure the control rod is connected. If it is, move the touch control lever & make sure it moves the control rod. If the control rod is connected & the touch control lever doesn't move it, the friction disc might be bad.

I thought the friction disk just kept the lever from moving to easy.

The control arm is connected to the pump. I also put a new friction disk in as well. The control rod appears to move up and down instead of front to back. I think it is in the quadrant positioning because when I loosen the tension bolt for the control lever and push in slightly on the bolt it will work and come up halfway.

The normal operating range (full down to full up) requires about two inches of travel of the touch control lever. If it's almost to the top of its travel before it begins to lift, move the touch control quadrant to the rear to move the operating range nearer the center of the touch control lever stroke.

Also ensure the control arm is pushing valve rocker all the way forward, up against pump housing (point A) at full up command.

Remove the right inspection cover and manipulate the control lever forward and backward - Does it operate the lift?

I have done all of this. When I reach inside and move the control rod by hand the lift works. When I move the lever the control rod moves more
up and down instead of front to back. Any ideas?

op of control arm is on an eccentric (think crankshaft rod journal) of the control shaft, operated by touch control lever attached to friction disk. IF, the friction disk to control shaft key is missing, I can see the shaft being rotated relative to friction disk, such that shaft rotation moves control arm up & down vs fore & aft.

I?m not sure I understand what you are saying. I can rotate the shaft by hand and get the same results. The key you
spoke of is there. I thought the friction disc was to keep the control lever from moving freely. I know it?s something
simple but it?s getting to me.

An ecentric being what it is, the arm will have some small vertical movement. It is the fore aft of the top of arm at the eccentric that, in conjunction with the pivot point (swivel 80 in Draft control mode or pad LP in Position control mode) which results in fore/aft movement of the bottom end of control arm at pump valve.
P.S. control arm (80) needs to be rotated 180 degrees to make their drawing correct.
