2N Cutting out

Ford 2N: Engine recently overhauled. New carb installed and cleaned and float reset. Engine runs for two or three minutes moving then it will start to cut out, but will run ok again if I pull out the choke. Then it will be fine for awhile. Going up a hill, it will begin to cut out, then I pull out the choke and it is ok. I have drained the gas tank and put new non ethanol gas in tank. I also changed the spark plugs. The old spark plugs did not have many hours on them and where black. Any ideas? Thanks!

As soon as the tractor stops running, not 5 minutes later, check for fuel.

With the bolt in the carb bowl removed and the gas on, will the fuel flow fill a pint jar in less than 2 minutes?

Also try it with a loose gas cap.... if your tank vent isn't 'venting', you may need to address that... you'd have several options...

Randy........BLACK sparkies = RICH carbie. Shuld be tan or gray. Recommend AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025. Learn how to adjust yer carbie. Set the down-pointing MAINJET to 2-turns and LEAVITT!!!.......adjust the side-pointing IDLEMIX fer FASTEST idle, NOT smoothest idle. Understand the difference??? Shuld be about 1/8-1/4 turn. Remember the IDLEMIX is BASS-ACKWARDS, out fer lean, IN fer ENRICH. One last comment; when was the LAST time you replaced yer sparkie wires??? They should be limp as a wet noodle. Me? I gotta set from HOT-ROD shop fer Chevy V-8 'cuz they had right-angle booties to fit under the gastank. Don't gitt modern string sparkie wires, gitt COPPER-CORE sparkie wires and you won't have misses and cuttin' out. You doubt? Idle yer tractor on DARK nite and watch the sparkies dance on the OUTSIDE of yer wires........HTH, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
