Sediment Bowl Leaking

Had gas seeping onto the glass of the sediment bowl for a while now. Replaced the bowl gasket, checked the glass edge, seepage still there.

Got a good light and checked the issue more closely, dried everything carefully and watched for a few minutes. Then I noticed some gas slowly seeping out around the plug on the side of the housing.

Tightened the plug...still seeping. Removed the plug, cleaned the threads on the housing and the plug with a Q-Tip and lacquer thinner, applied a bit of sealant, reinstalled. twenty four hours later...no leak.

I know, I know, I should have checked more closely before I let this thing kick my butt.

Thought you might like some pics.

Also included a couple of the Idiot light setup (had an extra hole in the dash to do something with).

Glad you got it fixed.

I guess you know that's not an oem style
bowl. That's a replacement made to fit both
the N and Fergy. That's the purpose of the
bolt/plug.

Nice attention to wire and tubing runs. A NASA electrician trained me in electrical work in 1970 at Cape Kennedy..., there was a lot of emphasis on the run and neatness. Must be something similar in your background!

How much do you want fer'ya "How To Read A Amp-meter Fer Dummies book"... You have a Voltmeter shrilly you don't need that book anymore...

That's good to know and add to the list of fixes. I've found too that one primary reason that sediment bulbs leak is that the valve stem has a rubber seal on the shaft and over time it gets chewed up and thus will allow leaks. The second major cause of leaks is that the threads of the fuel line and/or the valve stem inlet ports are cross threaded. The threads are a special thread size, 7/16-24, and some try to re-tap with the wrong size. It is the valve stem that does all the mechanical work. If bulb isn't cross threaded, one only needs to replace the stem with a new one, usually about $6-$8. With the new valve stem, p/n APN=9194, you get a new knurled knob and 8-32 screw to attach it with. This knob often will get unscrewed in the field from vibration and fall off. To remedy, simply put a dab of thread sealant on the screw when installing. It will never come off and there is no need to ever remove.
