Stuck clutch

I have tractors that don't get used over the winter and sit
outside under a tarp. If you have a tractor that don't get used
over the winter I'd like to remind you to block down your clutch
pedal so that when you need your tractor in the spring you won't
have to deal with a sticky or stuck clutch.

It takes a lot less time to block a clutch than to unstick one. I've used 2x2s, 2x4s, sticks from the nearby woods, even soft-drink cans to block the clutches on my tractors. Just about anything to prop between the pedal and something else will work -- high tech not required.

Interesting topic.

I've had the spring-time sticky clutch syndrone on my Jubilee. Understandably, a sticky clutch is a problem, but is there any issue with the clutch plate rusting (tractor is stored under a carport in SW Michigan all year) and creating a whole new set of problems?

Thanx.......

While I do believe that blocking aa clutch pedal down is a good, I have had no problem except when I first bought my first 8N. It stuck twice in the first month, was able to get it loose and have not had a problem since, probably 15 years ago. Must be lucky, a lot of condensation here on the wet side of Oregon.

up until about five years ago I never bothered to block the clutches. tractors sat out all year long under tarps and NEVER had a clutch stick. fergusons and fords. then I bought a 55 TO-35 and I replaced the clutch. along with having the engine replaced due to cracked blocked. now that machine was kept in the attached garage and not run all winter. one spring I went to start it and the clutch was stuck. maybe I did something wrong with the installation of the new clutch. (two stage) now I block all the clutches.

Inside or out they still can stick. Put the '39 in the garage a week ago and blocked down the clutch

Novice question here, but would anyone care to share a picture of how you block DOWN a clutch? Can't quite visualize it in my head lol

kirk, thank u for starting this thread and reminding me that i had forgotten that i was going to start doing this.

If you have ever dealt with the frustration of a stuck clutch you will always block it down when parking over night. Same thing with the gas shut off. Hydro lock is no fun either.
