Ford 8N Power Steering

I have a loader on my Ford 8N. Is it possible to install a power steering unit on the tractor? Has anyone done this to help with steering with a loader?

With enough time & money, anything is possible. I think you meant to ask " Is it possible to install a power steering unit on the tractor that does not exceed the value of the tractor?" ;)

Scroll down on this page to the post re " electric power steering". http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=nboard&th=1018741

There is commercially available unit: http://jacksonpowersteering.com/category/products/complete-steering-kits/

When I had a loader on my 8N, I built a wooden frame to hold the bucket, lift cylinders & arms & only put the loader on the tractor when I needed it. My plan A was to put quick disconnect fittings on it. I went to plan B and sold the loader.

There are a lot of schemes to upgrade Ns with auxiliary transmissions for tilling, belt driven pumps to give them live hydraulics and remote hyd capability and even power steering.
I have always said and will continue to say if you want or need those features buy a tractor that had them installed at the factory. You will not only get those features but you'll get other ones that will improve the tractor's functionality, efficiancy, reliability, longevity - and marketability come sale time.

This ^^^ is sound advice. I've used my 8N with a Davis loader on it for 12 years. I got used to the hard steering.

But when a MF202 Workbull with a loader and power steering came up for sale up the road from me, I jumped on it for $2000. Still use the 8N for mowing only. The 202 will do all the loader and scraping work.

I could have used that $2000 to put power steering on the 8N, but it would still only be an 8N. The 202 is a much better and more powerful tractor.
