2N sleeve replacement

Good morning all. Getting my block back from the machine shop today. Had it hot tanked so everything is clean. He wanted $100
per cylinder to press the new sleeves in. Claimed he had to heat the block as well as freeze the sleeves. I'll do it my self but
that got me to wondering if anybody has experience with heating the block? Does it help any? I heat my shop with an old cook
stove so it wouldn't be hard to heat the block, just put it on top and let it sit for a time. Any and all inputs would be welcome.
Thanks

I install them at room temps. Then I know how they fit. If you heat the block & freeze the sleeves, they may drop in easy but how do you know if they are tight enough?

If you have the proper interference you do not need to heat the block or chill the sleeves to press them in. If you are going to go that route forget heating the block. Get some dry ice and chill the sleeves to -100F - that will provide more than enough contraction to drop them in. If it doesn't you have fitment issues.

TOH

PS> That $100/hole price is ridiculous.....

Yep. $100 was way too much. Went to pick it up and he re-considered. It's a high performance racing type shop. Once he saw what
it was the cost was $20 a hole. I'll take that.

Wow... I’ll press as many sleeves as you want for $100 each! Lol that’s insane, if he did not want to do the work why did he just say I don’t feel like doing that?

They are not bad at all to press them in. I have in the past put a kerosene heater under the block while mounted on a engine stand. Then I put a the sleeves in a regular freezer right next to the steaks over night.

I also do have one of the sleeve service tool kits for pushing the old ones out and pushing new ones in so that makes life a little easier too.

Best of luck
