What is the plug for on my 8N Ford Tractor, located just below the battery tray, vertical of starter of frame. is this a inspection hole or for fluids.

hi wally, and welcome to YT.

without a pic, i have to guess what you're talking about is a drain plug for the water jacket.

wally........it ain't fer fluids. Iff'n it wuz the weird 4-nipple front mount, it's timed on the kitchen table, seriously. I'd make a WAG (wild A$$ guess) it was probably drilled to un-stick a stuck clutch......mind reader, Dell

We need more info here, a picture would help tremendously too. There is no cast and machined plug in the area you suggest. When owners purchased a Sherman Auxiliary Transmission, an optional accessory, never a factory item, the shifter arm needed to be mounted on the LH side of housing in the area you suggest. A hole had to be made in order to install it. SEE pictures below:

That's not oem. Some lost soul drilled it out to get the Bendix off the flywheel or unstick a clutch. Despite that silly move, at least he had the good sense to plug it.
