Tight motor 518n

Ref 8n.I think I may have left the rope oil seals a bit to long. When the
new motor was in the shop I could turn it by hand but it was very
tight. Now that it?s in the tractor with the belt on I can no longer turn it.
Is it possible that the rope seals could be jamming things up. Note
everything in the motor is new. Crank was turned and new wrist pins
and pistons Ann sleeves. Everything that moved got a coat of
Lubraplate. Any ideas or is this normal. Also can I achieve oil
pressure just by turning the motor over with the starter and not
starting it (oil pump is packed with Vaseline.) thanks in advance. I
have been restoring her for the last 5 years in spare time almost
there. Will post pics soon.

Some engines are tight after an overhaul. If you want to loosen it up before you start it up for the first time have someone pull you around with your tractor in 4th gear.

I think if it turns over with the starter and builds oil pressure you should be ok. Have you tried to start it? The 2 engines that I have rebuilt I only coated the rope seals with assembly lube, I did not soak in oil. I have had no leaks. I turned the engine over while assembling it with a torque wrench and never exceeded 80 to 90 ft lbs when fully assembled.

The one I did about 6 years ago would build up oil pressure with just the starter. I would say you are good to go if the starter will turn it over.
