Cut off Moldboards?

They may have had clod busters or cover boards on them. Either one has a tendency to break the boards because of how they are attached. Swede

They seem to break in that same spot. I got this one with the broken moldboard and welded a piece from another moldboard on. not pretty but gets the job done.

They were not 'cut' off by someone as the ad suggests, they broke off. Moldboards often cracked/failed at that point. Not sure if they were cast iron or steel. I suspect steel, just not proper grade/heat treat applied, although cast iron would certainly be more brittle and more susceptible to breakage than steel. I have a Dearborn 10-8 Plow and a Dearborn 10-1 Plow both with the rear moldboard welded up like that. I have only seen this on the early Ferguson-Sherman style and early Dearborn Moldboard (Prior Model) Plows, never on the Economy Plows. This would make a decent restoration project -price not bad considering. has coulters, tag, smooth hub rolling landside, which leads tome think it may have the FORD script cast in the mainbeam. I'd ask what model No. is on tag, find a similar project plow, incomplete, but with decent moldboards, and swap out those parts.

The ministry of agriculture was promoting that in the early 80's. It was supposed to leave a strip of residue like a chisel plow but without
having to spend the money. It will not pull straight at the original crossbar setting because the balance between the moldboard pushing left
and the landside pushing right has been disrupted. I never saw one in use. We ended up buying a chisel plow.

I bought a dear born plow something like
that at a auction a few years back, one of
them was broke off right about there. It
had a bolt hole for the extension part,
(The name escapes me at the moment) that
seamed to weaken it.
