Problems Starting 9N

Having problem starting Ford 9N that has been converted over to 12V battery with a resistor.
Does not appear to be getting power at the spark plug or off the distributor (green cap that spark plug wire plugs in).
I connected the spark plug wire to a screwdriver and held it over the spark plug and did not see any arc.

I read in Bruce Haynes 75 Tips in #38 if the ignition was left on and points were closed when the engine stopped, that the points could be burned and possibly the coil...

From little experience I have with points, I remember a person can use a small fine file and clean and reset... but I don't know about the coil... Am I looking at replacing the coil?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

As additional info, did try to pull start the tractor with no luck...
Engine turns over fine, but just doesn't appear to get any fire.

I had a similar problem. The series resistor was too low a value and it burned out the coil. Try measuring the continuity of the coil primary. I bought the coil from ebay so the manufacture may have been different. So i bought a coil from yesterdays tarctors, used the recommended resistor and it is running fine.

Iwwilks........as a general rule, coils are bulletproof ...but... points arn't. Unfortunately, there are 2-ways to convert the weird 4-nipple front mount to 12-volts. Either way is fine. One uses a 12-to-6 volt converting resistor and the ORIGINAL 6-volt coil. The other way is using the NEW 12-volt 4-nipple coil. BOTH use the same points (0.015) and and same condenser and same BALLAST RESISTOR. (which is different from the 12-to-6 resistor) The condenser is rated for 200-volts so 12-volts is notta problem. The BIGEST problem is adjusting the points, which is done on the kitchen table. (really) The front mount is held on by 2-bolts so you kent gitter outta time. Me? First thing I'd due is clean the points from INVISIBLE CORROSION. Stick the corner of $1-bill (cheap) between the points, and PULL. DONNA USE A FILE!!! 'cuz you'll be replaceing the points inna about 10-hrs. You kenn do the $1-bill trick on the tractor. Last points, keep yer itchy-twitchy fingers off'n them handy-dandy carbie tweek'ums. They aintchur problem as described. Replace yer sparkies 'cuz ya FLOODED'em. Recommend AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025. Don't throw yer FLOODED sparkies away, just clean'n'dry 'em, one-atta-time in HOT running engine and save'um fer the NEXT time you have starting issues..........HTH, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
