Head, oil pan, crank, pistons and rods all still in the bags.
Flywheel looks nice, especially compared to where it was!

I took the bag off the block long enough to put it on the stand.
He reassembled the cam and all the valves, seats, seals etc.
and installed and honed new .090 sleeves for me.

What did that set you back over there
in Mich.? It's hard to find a
machine ship to trust to do all.that
today

"What did that set you back over there in Mich.?"

Well, the crank had to be ground .020 on both rods and mains,
so that added a bit to the price. All total, $700 out the door.

I've dealt with this guy for about 10 years. He does good work.
He will still go do the valves in a flat head at your location if you
were doing an "in frame". I prefer to take it to him to be cleaned,
measured, etc. so I know it's right when I put it back together.

I haven't taken the pump apart yet Dean, but my intention
is to mic and inspect all the parts and re-use them if possible.

This was already a good running engine but was starting to smoke.
It carried about 20 PSI oil pressure hot.
I have several pumps around for parts and this one was working
fine when I tore the engine down, so given the quality of the new
gears lately, I'd like to re-use the originals if within specs.

Machine shop work, in general, is expensive. But so are their tools.
Not to mention the knowledge, cleanliness and attention to detail.
I don't mind paying for quality work. Especially when I trust him.
If he said replace X, Y and Z, I would. Simple as that.
Together we've done engines from 12 to ~600HP over the last 10 years.
Every one of them still going strong as far as I know.
Makes me want to get my hands on another 392 or elephant. ;)

I drive the old bushing out and the new bushing in. Then hand it over to my machine shop guy he sizes it on a sunnen machine the same one he does rod bushings on and charges me $15 :)...

I have him recondition all the rods with new bushings I have been bit hard using old rod bushings but never again tho...
