Hello
I am located in northern Ohio and make Ford sleeve puller tools I have pictures of the tool. The task of getting these things is absolutely crazy and manufacturers want a crazy amount of money for them. I just took the sleeves out of my 1952 Ford 8n and I made this tool using my shops plazma table this tool worked extremely well and I want to offer this tool to the community please let me know if you are interested my email is [email protected]. Thanks

Tinman, glad to hear someone is doing this! Could you post more info on your puller? Possibly pics & prices?? Might be more interest than you think!

Hello Lynn
Thanks for the reply yes about this puller I guess it is more of a pusher or driver.
As I was doing my research on these items I ran across alot of drive out style ones so that's what I made this driver is used when you pull the crank out and are looking at the sleeves from the bottom much easier to do than trying to set a 2 post puller on top of the block and the 2 posts are sitting on head holes that are used for coolant passage. I don't think that was a good style due to the issue of cracking the top of the block trying to get a sticky sleeve out.
So my driver sits on the sleeve perfect and can do a demo video if need be I am waiting on my block to get back from a guy doing the valves.

Details on the Driver as I said it is 3/16's plate steel with a solid 1' rnd stock that is dipped in rubber for those oil soacked hands and better grip.

Tinman27 ,3/16"s plate steel is way to thin/lite,to easy to bend up.Needs to be at least 1/2"-3/4" and machined to fit ID of sleeve and OD of sleeve to be a reusable tool. Any tough removable sleeves and you will have bent up scrap metal with that driver.

Well I just drove out out all 4 of my sleeves and didn't even scratch it and I don't believe that you need to waist metal on something as simple as this and if you want to pay for two pucks one for a .040 sleeve and one for .090 sleeve then please be my guest that's why the only one company I have found that sells them can sell them for $280.00. that price is crazy and let's be extremely honest how often are we pulling sleeves that we need 1/2 plate steel pucks made if that's the case then there would be a machine doing it. The tool I have made worked amazing for me just offering it to everyone else for not even half the price.... But thanks for the input.

i paid $100 for mine. the puck is stepped and is 5/8" thick. i'd be happy to pass it along quite reasonably.

I agree that 3/16 is way to thin. Stacking two pucks will not make a significant difference.

I am not a machine or a machinist, they cost $59 not $280, and they are not steel plate. These are ~1" thick slabs of cold rolled 1020 steel round bar and includes a nice handle and wooden storage case. The steps that engage the sleeves are machined to +.001/-.001 tolerance which you will need for reliable performance on .040 wall sleeves. They also ship cheap - $7.50 USPS flat rate priority mail ;-)

TOH

PS> At that price I don't make any money on them.....

Here is a set of sleeve bangers, that I bought from TOH.

Tinman says...:" let's be extremely honest how often are we pulling sleeves that we need 1/2 plate steel pucks made if that's the case then there would be a machine doing it."

That's what I was kinda thinking, just prior to asking TOH to make these.
Even with the added 'Install Mandrel' the set did not come close to costing me $280.00
AND....BTW....this set has done 7 sets of sleeves, (3 sets of .090, and 4 sets of .040 since I bought them.( bought in 2010 ??)
They did the job, and not a scratch on them. The mandrel, takes all the work out of sleeve install!!

Those look rather familiar. You may want to add another set of .090's if you weren't counting mine. ;)

One of the early ones where I was still stamping the size on the pucks. Based on what I am hearing it sounds like the USPS is making more moving them around the country than I did making them ;-)

OK guys.....quit gangin' up on me!! My memory ain't what it used to be.
LR; ya never said what size sleeves you were banging out, so I left that trip open. SO that would be four .090's, and four .040's!!
TOH should be VERY proud of those pieces. They are now VERY WELL traveled. My Hermie's sleeves...then Pete Fl's set....then Gary in Fl's set......then a trip to Va......then a trip to Az....a trip to Id.....a trip to NH..........AND NOW.....Michigan for LR's 8N.
AND STILL ......NO accidents, except by the post office, when they dropped the box, and broke it.
Last time I saw them,....they were still looking like TOH, had just made them!!!!

DAM GOOD Sleeve Bangers!!! The Traveling sleeve bangers!!!
