8n Front Mount Distributor Points

My 8N runs fine with the points and starts fine as long as I run the tractor about once every couple weeks. However, when I allow the tractor to set for a couple months or so, the next time I go to use it I have to pull the distributor and clean and set the points. Does anyone have a solution to this issue. The points are NAPA points. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Solutions to points glazing?

1. Run the tractor to operating temp every 30 days. That prevents the points from glazing as well as to help keep your battery from sulphating.

2. Do not use a points file or sandpaper to dress the points. That removes the thin metallic counting on them which makes them more prone to glazing.

3. Use quality points (NAPA Echlin & Bluestreak have always worked for me)

4. Install EI.

Is there a vent that is plugged? I have four tractors with
points and have zero trouble. My 4000 I use about once a month
for about 5minutes. The points are over 17 years old.

I have a working solution, but can't tell you for fear of liability. Other than that, move to less humid climate.

If you would just claim you were a EI tech when in the Navy no one would dare question that now would they...

Ron.......ennytime you haff runnin' problems, change yer sparkies. Ya FLOODED 'em. Recommend AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025. Don't throw yer sparkies away, just clean 'n dry'em, one atta time, in HOT RUNNING ENGINE. As fer yer points. The 4-nipple dizzy was NOT one of Ford's better ideas. Me? I'd pop the capple and pry open the points (0.015) and stick the corner of #1-bill (cheap) between the points and PULL. Polish the INVISIBLE CORROSION from between the points. Simple, eh? .....BTW..... the weird 4-nipple dizzy was designed to have the points (0.015) replaced on the kitchen table. Just remove the 2-bolts and walk. Installation is a reveral of the removal ...except... finger start the 2-bolts and install the rotor. Now rotate the rotor until the OFF-SET tang fits the OFF-SET slot in the camshaft. Now tighten the 2-bolts and re-snapple the capple. Simple, eh?.......HTH, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
