nicko........on or off the engine??? Off the engine, I use HEAVY greese, like vasoline. ON the engine, I pump 90wt oil thru the access bolthole with an oil pump squirter. Iff'n ya ain't gott the oilpan on yet, disconnect the #1 bearing and you'll have the oilpump in yer hand. I always use the 1-piece neoprine front seal, you'll haffta use the 2-piece rope seal fer the aft seal. Generally you kenn just use the seal that fitts in the oilpan, leaving yer block seal inplace..........HTH, oily Dell

I think you want to use 80W oil (gear oil) to prime it. Make sure oil filter canister is full.

Nicko,It sounds like the oil pick up tube has cracked loose from not being mounted right and hit by the crank shaft.The easiest way to check is to Drain the oil and reach up and grab the pick up bell and see if it is loose and you can shake it If so it has broken loose at the pump flange or at the bell.
