Truck driver friend sent me this, this is where good chains would have been a good idea...

I don't see any chains nor binders and suspect he only was using the cheap nylon straps, worse yet, ye gads, bungy cords. I've seen a few incidents like this, cars and trucks, not just tractors, because fellas don't know, don't do their homework on proper hauling laws and procedures.

That's a shame. Looked to be a real nice Massey Harris. I bet he didn't have any straps on it. Just put it in gear a d set the brakes.

My old high school driver's ed teacher also farmed. He hauled a 4020lp on a homemade gooseneck trailer between his two farms and only used the tractors park brake.

More people use straps than chains here.

Pop went to MSHP with questions when he built his first trailer, (early 70s). The trooper recommended dog chain for safety chains. "Do you want to be chained to that thing if it comes loose going down the road?," (his words). gm

IMHO

There is no way that little truck could brake hard enough to break straps or chains. I agrre with Tim - probally no tie downs.

Correct straps work good. Obviously the cargo needs to be secured correctly.

Is the tractor going to be okay?
Seriously?? This picture could have looked a lot worse than it does. How about human life. Innocent bystanders, etc.

Ummm..... maybe it's just me but YES I would want my load chained to me. Lot more likely to not kill anyone. If a load is so big you don't want to be attached to it, don't attach it to you.

rant done.

Wonder how thrilled the rear ended driver in front of him was? Hope all the occupants involved were not injured.

I would be willing to buy that guy a beer, so he has something to cry in.

I have seen a D8 Cat hauled down US#2, sideways on a lowboy---NO chains at all; using the shoulder and northbound lane, and being driven
like the truck was stolen.

Just seems that Darwin IS lucky MOST of the time.

(quoted from post at 19:42:51 09/21/17) Makes me glad I opted for chains for hauling my tractor

TJ what size chain do you use? You seem to be saying that any chain is better than any strap. You can go into about any hardware store and find a dozen different chains under 5/16. Are they all good for tying your tractor down? They would not be for mine.
