1954 NAA Finally Finished.....Thank You!

After about 1-1/2 years of work, my project is done!

I rebuilt the engine, tranny, top cover, hydraulic pump, carb, rear axles, brakes, steering box, and probably a few other things that I don't remember.

Sheet metal was probably the most challenging part.

I realize it is not a perfect restoration. Most of the nuts and bolts are stainless to make future maintenance easier. But I did try to keep it as original as possible. Any parts too bad to fix were usually replaced with old original parts tracked down on eBay, etc.

I don't have any great pictures handy of BEFORE, but this dash picture gives an idea of the sheet metal condition when I got it:

Nicely done sir! I really like the NAA's.
Especially when they're fixed up nicely like that!

Thanks! I'm really happy with how it turned out. I really wish it had the original hat rims, but couldn't justify the extra expense and effort for a working tractor.

One interesting part that doesn't show up in the pictures is the Selec-trol valve under the seat. I should probably pull it off and sell it, because I'll never use it, but it looks like it belongs there--so I think it'll stay.

That selector valve was unique in that it only fit the NAA.
There was a remote valve for the NAA also, and it only fit '53
and '54 NAA's. Talk about hard to find! Not even an aftermarket.
In all fairness, they will fit 600 + with an adapter plate.
Cost prohibitive though.

Great looking NAA. You did a really good job on the restoration. You say this is going to be a working tractor, don't you worry about scratching the paint during use? I know I would.

very nice.
I also have a fondness for the NAAs. My hundred series tractors are better tractors, improvements-wise, but I will always keep my NAAs.
On the hat rims, keep an eye out with the local guys. We are too far away, but just as an example.....I have a bunch of hat rims on various tractors. I'd trade them for loop rims without a second thought with the right deal. I don't care about 'correct' at all, and actually prefer the loop style.

Thanks for the pic of the NAA Selec-trol valve. I have a bunch of the NAA hydraulic Arps valves Royce pictured. But, I've never seen the Selec-trol valve for a NAA for sale. Did your tractor wear a trip bucket loader when you got it? I see the loader mount in the front....and with that valve....
(Ford made a valve for the NAA also. You can see it in the old promo video for the Jubilee on youtube)

one tip on your Selec-trol valve. Cycle it once in a while.
I have a 4cyl 4000 that came with a Selec-trol valve.....hopelessly stuck from rust. Even removing it and soaking and heavy 'persuasion'......nope....junk.

Yes, i do! But I also don't really have space to let it just sit around gathering dust. Kind of has me in a bind, actually. I got a little carried away during the overhaul because it was just too fun...and now I'm stuck with a "too good to use" tractor!

Thanks! No loader when I got it, but I suppose at some point it probably wore one?

And thanks for the rims and Selec-trol advice. It cycles very smoothly right now, so I'll keep it moving so it stays that way...

Very Nice! You get extra points for the red stater and genny, along with new plated lug nuts. That original work light is a nice extra touch too. What did you use for paint?

Thanks! Sheet metal paint is color matched to Tisco's Ford Medium Grey. Body is matched to Rustoleum's Sunrise Red.

I've been very impressed with the silver paint on the exhaust/muffler. It's just some inexpensive rattle can "high temperature" stuff from Ace Hardware--can't recall its name at the moment. When converting from a vertical to horizontal exhaust, I sprayed the new parts and expected it to burn right off, but 11 months later they are spotless.

I didn't use any kind of clear coat.
