Took the FEL off and left it at the cabin. Brought the tractor home to do a rebuild this winter. First inspection today. SCARY,
Couldn't see up in there with the loader on. Tank leaking onto a hot engine / spark plug. Sounds like a recipe for distaster.
Also thought my head gasket was leaking. Think that missing nut might be contributing to that. Scraped enough gunk off so I could
read the serial number. 1944 2N front mount. But it has the I beam radius rods which from what I'v read are not correct for that
year.
Anyhow you guys might be hearing a lot from me over the coming months.

Was the tractor using oil or low power? Maybe it just needs a good cleaning and tune up looking at the spark plugs. Looks like the loader was leaking oil onto the engine/radiator??

No power, smokes, uses oil, and the coolant gets this gray gunky sludge in it. Don't think the loader was leaking. Something else on the front end but cant tell yet until I get the hood off. Sure had fun getting the steering wheel off.

kirk, the oval radius rods were introduced partway thru 1944, so either could be right. plus, they're interchangeable.

So I got the tractor split and the engine on the stand in the shop. Found a couple of pleasant surprises. Somebody has done a rebuild and bored the cylinders for the cast iron sleeves. Also done the adjustable lifters. Found the head gasket was leaking and all valves, both intake and exhaust were covered in thick carbon. Probably not seating very well. I haven't put a mic on the cylinders but there is absolutely no ring ridge. Those are the pleasant surprises. Cleaning up the oil pan today and found this. Doesn't look like its been leaking, saw no oil on the outside. Just concerned about the crack growing and giving me problems down the road. Any suggestions on how to repair this? Thanks in advance.
