Priming the motor

Unscrew the nut that holds the relief spring and put your oil down that hole. It goes right to the pump.

Can anyone tell me where to put oil in my 8n to prime the system?
Thanks
Gator

I just did this a couple of weeks ago. I put oil in the behind the relief spring and cranked a bit but it didn't register any pressure. Maybe I didn't crank enough?

I decided to take out the plugs and had a friend pull me slowly with my key off and in high gear until my gauge registered pressure. I put the plugs back in and it fired right up. That took the worry of a dry start away for me.

Take the oil line loose at the split connection (r/s rear on block). Put another oil line on the connection then a 1/4 in. rubber line on the oil line. Make sure the top of line is above the block. Put a small funnel in the top and fill it with oil. It will drain directly into the oil pump. 30 w is ok or something heaver. When you fill it has filled hit the starter (switch off) and you should have a gusher. Done.

gator, if u pull the plug on the timing cover, remember that there is another hole behind the one the plug was in, that the spring and plunger seals. the oil needs to go thru that hole too. i used a piece of fuel line shoved over the nozzle of a quart of 90W. feed the fuel line thru both holes and squeeze 4 or 5 ounces thru.

I use a squirter oil can, and like HFJ says, ya gotta get the oil in that inner hole.
