It was cool, we had about 99% here, The temperature really fell. Never got dark but sort of a weird twilight.

Just finished watching totality in Missouri - amazing!

(And, HFJ, by the way: as long as I am alive, you will NOT be the world's worst welder!)

sed my welding helmet also not a big deal here like a partly cloudy day.

My wife and I both wore sunglasses while watching through my welding mask. We had 85% coverage and it is our second partial.
This one was way better than the last partial.
As for welding... I have been advised to find an old car hood and get a feel for my Hobart both as MIG and flux core wire.
I feel like I must have something like that here on this 1863 homestead - I just have not found it yet. I have a really
good u-beam, but it would not burn through as easy and I may need it some day - just like folks who lived here a hundred
years before me might have needed it someday.

92% here in the Middle West, we used a #10 mask + gas welding glasses (#5?), which worked great. Couldn't get any good photos of it, though!

We stepped outside at work today to see what was going on.
Too cloudy to see much here.
Seems like I had a similar experience in '79.
But that was a long time ago for a young man like me! ;)

I used my welding helmet and watched. 70 miles away were my brother is it got completely dark. Here it was like dusk. The temp
drop 7 degrees.

My wife, daughter and granddaughter took turns using my welding
helmet. Partly cloudy here 71% partial, sometimes couldn't see it.
So while everyone looked up I got on the '41 9n and mowed the
lawn.
