Worth a look

(quoted from post at 04:20:12 08/16/17) HHHMMM... Dearborn FEL? "...ran good when stored... " the obligatory selling statement...

The auction I attended yesterday was the final bit of a family settling an estate for both their mother and father. Lot of stuff there that they had no idea of exactly what it was. Just didn't pay attention or didn't care. The utility tractor I was trying to buy the father had bought new. None of the kids had ever driven it. They were young adults when it was purchased. So I think many just don't know or may be going by what someone else had told them.

I have a 1979 Toyota Carrolla Deluxe and a 1985 Toyota Tercell, Both purchased new.

I quit licensing and insuring them because I couldn't afford it and really didn't need them. Both were in excellent running condition when they were parked.

Sometimes it's true.

I have a 46 2n that same color, I believe the State of Vermont painted it that way when it was a road side mower. My FIL bought it and put a WM-4 wagner loader on it. My wife learned to drive on that tractor, we were able to buy it back from the neighbor he sold it to in 83.

I wish I saw adds like that around me. I'd take a day off work to get it .

Looks like a good deal if nothing major wrong with it.somebodys going to buy the loader and Sherman and get a tractor free

Ads for good buys on tractors are always in someone else's territory never in yours. That's the rule isn't it?

Saw an ad for an 801 SOS Diesel yesterday for $850.
Didn't run, owner hadn't heard it run.
Decent tires but no PA rims.
But it had power steering and remote hydraulics.

He also had a 9N for sale that he said ran but smoked for $450
One bad rear rim IIRC. Tires looked fair in the pics.

I offered him $1000 for the pair, which he said he would take.
However, I couldn't get there until Saturday due to my work schedule,
so I told him if he sold them before then, that it was my tough luck.
He sold them both today. C'est la vie.
He was considerate enough to let me know, and that was much appreciated!

I would have jumped on the 801.
The PS is worth the selling price.
Also the diesel engine.
My pal ken bought an 1801 a couple/3? years
ago. The whole rear end was blown out -
catastrophic failure. He sold the front end
and steering to a guy up your way. Then
parted out the engine -head, crank crank
balancer, inj pump, etc. It was an SOS and
he got a good price for the shifter too.
Made about $1500 after all was said and
done. It didn't have any tires or rims on
it. I see it as a way to pay for your hobby.

agree UD, I always look for ways to pay for my fun hobby...

I try to not mess with 9N-2N's anymore, but if that one was local, I'd have to go for it...
Don't want it, but....
I'd pull the loader and mounts (quick seller...everybody with an old tractor 'wants' a loader [i:7c7ae6e100]with[/i:7c7ae6e100] mounts, even with the well known difficulties)
I'd swap some of my older, but usable rear tires onto it.
I'd pull the Sherman...I probably got an input shaft laying around somewhere.(another quick seller....unless it's a step-down or creeper...in that case, it's MINE..lol)
Quick run-thru of the tractor to get everything working ok.
Sell the bare tractor at a quick sale price.(N's are very popular in my area....for mowers mostly)
Fun job, and when all said and done, I'd take the new money and buy a 600 or 800.......

ps a Loader equipped N with an auxiliary transmission will always get a close look from me......those setups are the ones that might get the Step-down or even the Creeper..... $
