Mid 40's 9n tractor

if it's a 9n it has to be early 40's. 9n was only made 39-42. it does not look like it has a sleeve to me. Take the piston out and
then you can tell.

Working on that today.. The pistons are not out Just have oil pan and all the side parts off today.. And yeah i dont see the sleeve or at least what i would recognize as a sleeve..
and My dad said it was a 9n back when he could read the serial number and he told me it was mid 40's but I cant read most of the beginning of the Serial number only got 5 digits.. so i am assuming quite a bit here

9N and mid 40s are mutually exclusive, since 9Ns ceased production with the introduction of the 2N in 194[b:e770ce783c]2[/b:e770ce783c].

my guess is your dad didn't realize that all 9N and 2N serial numbers are prefixed with "9N" - the prefix did not change until the 8N was produced.

I have been into 15 are so with sleeves and 4/5 sleeveless engines and i can tell you if it had a sleeve I could see it and feel it if it did not I could not see it are feel a ridge at the bottom of the bore....

Move the piston up an inch or two. Then take another picture. I think I see a sleeve but would be more sure if the piston was mover up an inch or two. Post back. Hope this helps. Good Luck ! Your picture was excellent.

here is hoping i did another good pic.. I see a "change?" i assumed the sleeve came all the away down..

Did the other three look the same? There should have been pieces in the pan or the PO did not install sleeves when the engine was last opened. It will run without sleeves but usually has lower compression and uses oil.

No Pieces nothing to feel me thinks there is no sleeve and the compression tests were in the 60's if i recall So I dont think there are sleeves in this so I guess i'll measure and see if i can fits some in there

Thank you for the additional picture. You did a great job ! I do not see a sleeve in your second picture. All the sleeves I have seen are pretty flat on the bottom. The angle at the bottom looks like a machining champer to me ? As suggested, what does the other three cylinders look like ?
Hope this helps.
Thank You

I was wondering why you ask the sleeve question... Do a cylinder leakage test to nail down were the leakage is at. Sleeve are not its not a guess a cylinder leakage send you in the direction you need to go....

Asking because i am gonna make this work again and am gonna order parts IPulled it miked it and am ordering .49 sleeves and will get it bored a lil for them then the 3 3/16" pistons will fit and it will go back to work :> I use it out in the orchard and have plans to use it with the bee hives as well I move the hives to protect them in winter
