Good evening,
Anyone measure the resistance of 8NE1036 from YT its 6 ohm and is supposed to be .6 ohm. At least that is the measurement of mine taken with Fluke meter.
I contacted them response was similar to just use it.
When it is installed with no other inline resistor and 12.4 volt from battery I get 3.8 volt at lug on 12 volt type front mount coil @3.5 ohm coil resistance.
There is some spark, but I doubt it will run.

I am going with Dells 1/2 ohm resistor.

See tip # 30.

If you have a 12 volt front coil, all you need is the oem ballast resistor. A 12 volt round coil does not need a resistor at all.

Sorry, I did not answer all of the responses.

Yes, I mean 8NE10306.

The Fluke was auto scale. I had checked it on my less expensive meter and questioned the scale so I asked an electrical technician at work to check it.

I even contacted Atlantic quality parts where YT gets it from and they really did not know. Just said it was a standard number.
Thanks,
Scooter

Don't hold me to this.

I think that resistor was intended to be use on the excite wire when doing a 12V alternator conversion... Its used in place of a diode are bulb in series with the excite wire and bolted directly on back of the alternator are were ever you prefer...

I have 3 of'em they all measure 0.5 ohms....

I never understood why they are listed as

TO CONVERT 12 VOLT TO 6VOLT FOR THE DISTRIBUTOR IGNITION

I ordered it because the YT site say's it is for use with 12 volt coil.
I have also read the resistor topic posted quite a bit and became concerned the coil needs a reduction in voltage from alternator charge of over 12 volts.

When I got the tractor it was apart, but had been running with a 2.5 ohm resistor only and that measures 7 volts at the coil lug.
Thanks,
Scooter

You do NOT need it with a 12 volt front
coil. All you need is the oem ballast
resistor.

Your alternator puts out 14.5 volts. Your
coil has 3 ohms internal resistance. The
ballast resistor is 1.7 ohms hot.

You need to keep coil current below 4 amps.

Do the math.

It is a well established fact (over many years!) that that part number & the resistance value have no correlation at all. Sad, but just the way it is.

Good evening,
I have contacted the manufacturer of the resistor ArrowHead and they responded to confirm that it is not made correct and they do not have any that are correct at this time.
If you buy one from anybody then check it first.
I have asked YT for a refund.
Good Luck.

3amps.
