Oil Pump Question

Do you have to prime the oil pump on a 8n?
Just rebuilt the motor and I don't think it is getting any oil yet I'm hearing a squeaking noise that I haven't herd before.

Thanks Gator

Do you have oil pressure?
You can prime the pump by putting heavy oil in it through
the oil pump relief plunger hole on the front of the engine.

I have no oil pressure yet but I plan on buying some heavy oil and put in the relief valve.
I just hope I haven't screwed up anything.
Thanks
Gator

Standard practice is to pack the punp with light grease during the rebuild. That allows it to prime on it's own when the engine is first started. Once started and oil pressure is established it should not need to be primed again. If you are running an engine without oil pressure (e.g. no oil supply to the bearings or cylinder walls) it only takes a minute to do a LOT of damage....

Try this: Loosen the oil line inlet at the gauge. take your compressed air nozzle and blast a few seconds into the line. Reconnect and retry but as mentioned, do not run very long without any oil pressure reading on gauge.

The only thing this would do is to blow out any oil that might be in the pump. prime with 90 wt oil thru the pressure relief port.

Gator73,If you have ran the engine for more than 30 seconds and you are hearing squeaking noise chances are it is to late and the crankshaft and bearings are damaged.Time to do the double back step and check the bearings.
