will 2,8 and 9N oil cups interchange and work proper?

Good evening,
My 2N air cleaner oil cup has a removable inner cup with a cone shape sticking up in the middle that is ruined from rust. I have a later cup that is one piece with a little cup in the middle and I am wondering if they will interchange and work proper?

I have found cross section diagrams showing the assemblies and it looks like mine will not work with the newer cup because its tube in the center of the mesh body does not stick down in the oil of the little inner cup on the later oil cup.
Anyone know? Please let me know.
Thanks,
Scooter

Short answer is YES and NO. The early 9N's used two suppliers for air cleaners - Donaldson and United Services. The housings are different and the only parts that interchange are the cups. By mid-1940 Ford only used the United air cleaner up thru the 2N production years. The 8N Model used a totally different supplier and will have their logo "HH" stamped on the housing. All 8N "HH" air cleaner parts do not interchange with the prior 9N/2N air cleaners. If you want to know which style you have, post some pictures, but as I said, chances are 99.99% good that you have the UNITED style.. HTH...

Good evening,
This is the one I have and the inner cup is rusted out. The red cup is the one I am concerned will not work proper. It attaches, but I think the center tube in the body should stick out far enough to be in the oil.
Thank you
