Father in Law tried to run tractor. He said it took a long time to start, then I found out he wasn't giving it enough throttle. No biggy, it started for him but immediately died when he dumped the clutch. When he went to restart it there was nothing, no turn over, no anything.
That's the way it was when I got home, and still sits. I fiddled with it a bit and at one time the headlight worked and the starter solenoid clicked. She's not even trying to turn over.
I don't think it's the push start button because that doesn't explain the headlight.
Any ideas?

If you try to start it, and the starter disengages but continues to spin for a moment, DO NOT try to start until everything has stopped moving (engine kicking back, starter still spinning.) He may have tried to re-engage the starter before everything stopped moving, and locked up the starter. A gentle tug backwards while it is in a forward gear will reverse the engine and allow the drive to disengage, unlocking the starter. Another way to release the starter drive is to remove the starter and reinstall it.

Could be a stuck starter drive gear. It happens. Put the tractor in it's highest gear and try rocking the tractor back and forth. If the fan does not
turn it is stuck. Rock it harder. Might take two strong people to shake the starter gear loose from the fly wheel.
