Generator charging rate ?

1946 2N, 6V, positive ground. What should the charging rate be at high RPM ? My 2N charges at about 11V at high RPM but drops to Neg charge if I turn on the lights. I do a lot of mowing and do not want to boil my battery. Is this normal ?

o you mean 11 volts or 11 amps? I will assume amps. After been running several minutes, 11 amps is excessive. Adjust it back to about 2 or 3 amps. It will of course be higher right after using starter, but only for a few minutes. If running with lights on, then adjust it higher.

Dickie........unlike 12V alternators, 6V gennys don't charge at idle. At about 1/2-throttle, adjust yer back of genny charge screw fer about 3-amps charge rate (+) on yer 20% accurate dashboard meter.......HTH, electrical Dell

(quoted from post at 13:17:55 07/28/17) Thank you both very much. You are corrects. AMPS. not volts. As usual, expert advice from people that know.
lad to be of help.

Unless I missed it, it depends on which generator he has...early 9N's, the small gennys 9N-A and 9N-B output was about 7-1/2 amps. the 9N-C went to about 11 amps same with the 2N-100000 genny...When light switch is 'ON' the ammeter should move to "0" (zero) or the negative side depending on how good of a charge the battery has on it...
