8N governor bit the bullet..

Looks like my next project is the governor..
Tractor has been running very nicely since we had the starter rebuilt.

While brush hogging this morning the engine started speeding up and oil started blowing out the gov body..
Looks like the gov balls have worn through the body..

I am assuming this is going to take a total gov rebuild if things have reached this point on the inside..

I have looked into it and it all seems fairly straight forward, nothing at all out of my comfort zone... just a bit pricey...
As I am pretty much a 8n beginner any pointers are welcome..

I'm thinking as I need another body and probably some internals I would be better off just purchasing a new unit from YT...

Have not seen any better option anywhere else ...

I need to pull it off the tractor and have a look see inside it I guess..

(quoted from post at 12:34:15 07/28/17) I'd send it to nnalert's to see if it can be rebuilt.

I'll look into that. nnalert's probably have old original bodies to use as I understand some people have issues with the new made ones...

I would advise against buying a new one from any source. There are plenty of rebuildable used around. Ebay. Just 8Ns. Etc.

Did this governor work properly before wearing through the housing?

I just had the governor of my 8N today to fix a leak, It works ok but had an oil leak. the housing looked ok, very small score line around it, the balls had small flat spots in various places but otherwise everything inside looked fine.

If I didn't need to fix a pretty bad oil leak now, I would have just got a rebuild kit to put in it, next project after mowing season I guess.

Yeah, It was working fine up till it sprung the leak...

If your balls have flat spots they are real cheap to replace.. I'd do it as it would probably help reduce the wear on the inside of the housing, which you do not want to have to replace.. As I found out today..lol

I got one from here and it bolted right up and worked fine.
The only adjusting I had to do was the bolt for the max speed.
The one I replaced, had actually deformed the metal around the housing, and was just shy of chewing through it.

Appreciate that info JK..
I have talked with the parts dept at YT and I have no doubt that they will stand behind anything they sell.. Good people at YT.

The internal parts ..
I would guess, with no flat spots on the balls and the body being how it is, the previous owner replaced the balls and figured he'd just go till the housing gave out.. it had definitely been gone into by someone already.. The housing is beyond toast..lol

There are some circular shavings in the last pic right hand side.. not really sure where they came from.. maybe from the housing wear..

jklightner were the arms on your old governor in good shape?
If so, would you like to sell them?
Particularly interested in the inner arm as the hole in mine is
worn out letting it slop all over the place.
Email is open.

Those pieces between the balls are what's left of the arms.
I think the only thing salvageable is the gear and the oil fitting.

I was talking about the external arms, where the linkages hook to.
One from the throttle, the other to the carb.

OK, I got it now.
You can have them free for the cost of the postage.
I'll see what kind of box it will fit in and let you know tomorrow morning. Then we can figure payment.
I usually use USPS flat rate boxes. Parcel Post typically takes a month to the mainland from Hawai'i.

I got the arms off, and they look like I can use a USPS Small Flat Rate Box, which I think is about $7
Email me your info and how you want to pay for the postage.
