Hey y'all

Started opening up the problem child today. Here is where we are at so far.

Pulled the head. Head looks good no visible cracks or warpage. Gasket looks good as well. No edividence of blow by or fluid transfer.

From what we can see so far

Cylinder 1 piston looks ok. Valve heads look ok. This cylinder tested about 80psi

Cylinder 2 looks like a war zone. Head of the piston is badly scratched/ gouged. Piston has almost 1/4 inch play between the side of the sleeve and the side of the piston. The sleeve looks to be badly worn as well. This checked out at about 5 psi.

Cylinder 3 had about 70 psi and from what we can see so far looks ok along with valves.

Cylinder 4 that tested about 5 psi looks ok so far.

Any ideas on what to look for that failed that caused such severe piston damage?

Looks like you are in for a total rebuild or get another motor. I bet there are broken rings in that worst one. be interesting to see once you get her opened up.
It would be a fun rebuild.

The first picture is number 2 cylinder ... don't know why the pic loaded twice...

Here is the pic of the crank case contents....????

Pulling rods and pistons next

"....no antifreeze, and no metal. I even swiped a magnet around on a stick from inside the drain plug around the bottom of the pan and it came out clean."
