I don't have room for it...

about the axle seals. if one were to drain fluid and refill to lower hole on insp plate then theoretically the seals should not leak thereby eliminating the need to replace seals ??

Good question , The way the trumpet is designed , the axle bearings sit in a pocket of oil and I do not know if that pocket is deeper than the height of the seal .

Overfilling would probably make an average used seal leak a small amount but create a large mess .

As I get to that point in my rebuild I am curious as to how much oil it will take to run out with an axle removed with the tractor sitting level in the shop . I will also check to see if the oil in the pocket is higher than the lip of the seal .

It looks new enough to have inner seals. No doubt the whole shebang needs replacing. After my last 8N, I also take notice of the hood rust. Better be a hand at sheet metal work too.
