I may pull the trigger on a 2N Ford that's been sitting up a year or so, not very long. Owner asking $900 and is a reputable person I've known for several years, he says good compression and runs good, and good lift. Has been converted to 12 volt, I've looked at it, good sheet metal, tires fair. Haven't heard it run, don't need it either but thinking about giving it a good home. Will post pics later in the week should I trailer it home. Never owned a 2N, have had three 9N's over the years, wished I had kept one of them...to be continued

Put some atf or mmo in the
cylinders.....just in case. Them try and
turn it by hand before you try the starter.
Drain the tank & carb, add fresh gas. Dress
the points; they're probably glazed.

grayrider.......the difference between 9N and 2N is the lable on the hood hassa little 2N inn itt. Yeah, the early 1942 2N hadda magnito 'cuz they wanted to save battery lead fer the solders shootin' bullets. Same with ag-bar tires. Save'um fer the tank treads. Within 6-mos, they found out without FOOD, solders and sailors wouldn't fight. So the WMB (war material board) released lead fer batterys to start the engines and rubber fer ag-bar tires.......HTH, historian Dell

It won't hurt to do as Bruce says but if
it's only been a year I would just put a
battery in it and give it a whirl. My first
tractor was a 2N that had sat for most of 2
years when I got it. I turned the key on,
pulled the choke and hit the starter button.
Amazingly, it fired right up.
Then when I tried to drive it onto the
trailer one of the rear rims collapsed and
the tire burst and spewed CaCl all over the
yard but I kept on going and got it loaded.

Ultradog, school me on the magneto, i've got to get back over there and look at it, if magneto should give problems down the road can are parts available?

They are pretty much a direct swap for a FM
distributor. There was a right angle drive
that attached to the same two bolts that
hold the dist on. They are somewhat
collectable.
Board member R Gieger has one and could tell
you more about them. I think they are pretty
reliable but if it gives you any trouble
just stick a fm dist into it and be on your
way.

for that price grab it, by this time, and the 12 v conversion , the mag has probably been replaced with a dist. even if it still has one there not that hard to figure out

Brought it home, pulled it up on trailer, key was lost, good compression, oil and water OK in it, looks like alternator, fan belt, and governed recently replaced. Has the Sherman transmission..I noticed that the radius arms are mismatched

Also has a solenoid instead of using the normal pushbutton switch. Looks like the hole for the pushbutton is blocked off. Interesting. I'd want to change that back to original.

Governor replaced? Oh, boy! Hope the PO was able to get it to work right.
