Ok All, I took your advice and started a new message. For those who haven't been following this issue, I was moving some dirt with a 1/4 yard back bucket and heard a pop noise. I tried all the gears and the 2N didn't move just acted like it was in neutral. One suggestion was to check the differential ring gear rivets. I removed the left side axle and inspected; everything looked fine. the next suggestion was to check the Coupling Assy - transmission to pinion.
I just removed the right side inspection cover and mystery solved!! the Coupling shaft has broke in half. Ultradog MN & royse you nailed it! Looks like I'm going to have to split the tractor to replace.
Here's the funny thing normally as you mentioned these don't tend to break. Weeeeellll, Previously when I was having some hydraulic
issues I installed the lift cover and the piston connecting rod had dropped down on the coupler. I didn't realize that I had done this.
Well I had mowed the lawn and drove the tractor around a bit before I corrected that issue. It must of scored the coupler causing a weak spot and that's where the coupler snapped in half.
Hey royse, It looks like your about 2 hours from Lapeer. I'm going to see if anybody around here has a coupler. If I can't find one in Lapeer I'll be coming out to see ya. Thanks for all your help everybody, and wish me luck cracking that thing in half!

Good update - thanks.
We're all still learning here.
Now I wish I had recommended checking that coupler Before you went through the effort of pulling the axle off. Should a similar thing happen to someone in the future I have learned to recommend pulling that side cover off first. If you haven't reinstalled the rear axle yet I recommend you go ahead and tighten up the castle nuts on your lower lift pins. They like to loosen up and leak there. Both can be accessed by pulling the Left axle then removing the differential to get at the Right side.
Splitting it isn't a bad job. Some guys just use jack stands but those things give me the creeps. I only use wood blocking for that.

I use an ATV jack, block the front half with 6x6 stacked with 2x6 etc, roll the rear half back, then bolt a an old drawbar upright to either side of of the case to have more room to work without the ATV jack being in the way.
You can still move the rear half around easy enough with the bar end dragging the ground.
