camshaft/gear on magneto engines vs. points engines

Trying to troubleshoot a potential cam/crank timing issue on a 2N. Did the early engines (some 9Ns) with magneto ignition have camshafts or cam gear that were any different than later points ignition models? Were the timing marks any different on the gears? I can't think why they would be but we're just trying to eliminate all possibilities as we troubleshoot. Personally I didn't know there ever were any magneto models produced in the 9/8/2N lines but the shop insists there were. Thanks in advance-

Kurt........yeah, there were some magneto models. 1942 to be specific. Ford's response to the War Material Board to save LEAD fer the solders guns 'stedda batterys and RUBBER fer the tank treads 'stedda metal lugs. Within 6-months, all starters were battery operated and rubber ag-bar tires.........historian Dell

They also used magnetos on engines that were used for other equipment. service manual FO-4 show the magnetos and the drive set up for them. There is no difference in the camshaft for them.

On your 2n , you got it to run smooth for a short period of time so timing gears are not your problem or it would have never run .

I have no first hand knowledge of timing marks for a magneto system but I can tell you the crank to cam position would be the same for any distributor / magneto so I doubt there are different marks for a magneto .
