[b:577421a5b8][i:577421a5b8]Update on the Zenith mod. 101.
Got another 1/2 day in the shack yesterday!! Lots of fun in the sun??
Got the 101 blasted and started on the farmerizations.
Choke fixin's changed over to the other side...(ain't pretty, but functional, for my 'N'.
Gonna use a 'MS' throttle rod, but still have to modify the plate, to fit.
Half of the parts in the carb kit, for these dumb things, are wasted and not used for this mod. Zenith.......OH WELL, I ask for it!!!

Here's where I got to yesterday....:
Mock-up started:

Hope this thing works after all this!!!

Either it will work or it won't.
It's a learning experience.
Any day you learn something new is a good day :)

Well, if you're in the shack then Leslie must be doing better! I know how precicious a half day can be. Please tell me how you blast the carb,
they always leave ok so nice when you're done, and I would love to make mine look as good.

Thanks,

Jerry

Yep, Leslie is doing better. She still has a good long ways for this last surgery to heal up!!

Blasting on these carbs is just a matter of 'Not too close, but close enough to get the carb down to casting.
Then.....make sure to wire out ALL the passages, and prep for painting. Kinda have to do it about 4 or 5 carbs, to get the feel of it.
I use a cheepo Harbor Freight kettle blaster, with silica sand (20/30 grit. Then paint with two light coats of Ace Brand, dull black finish.

Here is the finished product on this Zenith 101. Just testing left to do!!!???.....:

Not really/completely back at it!! just got this from ScoutB, to play with.
I turned the carb thingy over to Royse. I've really got to be around to help Leslie re-coupe. Not enough time in the week, to mess around with carb's and such. Just something to keep what mind I DO have left, in a busy mode!!!

Good to hear you are still out there!!!!!! :D

I was wondering how you got the small parts so clean and then I saw the Brasso can. Looks great Gary. My N is still purring and working with the carb you did for me.

Yep. Had royse do mine. Very nice. Shouldn't have had the gloss black though. Always think it's leaking.

"Shouldn't have had the gloss black though. Always think it's leaking."

Interesting thought there Pike. I hadn't thought of that.
If it ever has to come back, I'll paint it flat black for you.
Or any other color you might prefer. :)

Gary,
Thanks for the info! I thought it was going to be something exotic like soda or glass beads or walnut shells. I don't have four or five carbs, so I 'll
just have to do the same one over and over!

Royse's green carb looks great, but I think it would stick out on my 9N.

It's looking great, Gary. Did you find a more complete kit than the one I sent you a link to? The kit I used was really basic but it too had lots of "extra" parts.

Jerry9N, soda would be a good way to go if you're just doing yours.
These things get a lot of dirt in them over the years.
Adding sand doesn't help and it doesn't dissolve.
I have to clean it all out very carefully after sandblasting.
I believe Gary did it the same way.
Meticulous cleaning and testing after sandblasting.

BTW, that color green doubles the price! ;)

Scott;
OOPS......I thought I had answered your email......my head ain't workin'!!!!
The kit you gave me, is the same kit I ended up using....got it from YT parts! Just has a dif. part# on it.
Talk about BASIC!!!! Those kits have a lot of extra gaskets and stuff, that I believe covers other Zenith carbs????

Never did find any of the kits, that would come with shafts, jets, and throttle plate/choke plate.

I just farmerized what I didn't have!!!

Thanks
