OT- truck for Royse

Been looking for a decent deal on a first gen dodge for almost a year now, and finally got one last night. Its rusty, but not near as bad as some others I've seen. 4 on the floor 4x4 with a carburetorated 318.

Just need to get that big ole ugly camper off the back and make it look like a truck again.

First Gen? I'm not sure what you mean by that.
Not a bad looking truck though. What year is it?
My '89 had a carb when I was done, but it was TBI V6 originally.
If mine had been 4 x 4 I probably would have kept it.
It was a bit squirelly without 4 x 4. ;)

1st Gen: Even though this is a gas engine truck, the generations were counted for the Cummins/Diesel trucks. This was the 1st generation of trucks to have the Cummins.

Nice truck.
I've never owned a Chrysler product. Dunno why. They are good machines.
Oh how I long for a good old bench seat.
On a long trip a guy could just lay over and take 40 winks then wake up and keep on going.
Can't do that now with all the buckets and consoles and seat belts sticking you in the ribs.

The 1st gen. refers to the body style of the truck with the Cummins engine. The 2nd gens would be the second body style with the Cummins engine or from '94 through 2002.and so forth.

I had a 90 or 91 version of that truck. 4x4 manual lock out hubs 318 AT

darn thing was a beast. wish I had kept it.

i used to be a Mopar guy. these days, i won't go near them anymore. FCA does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

That makes two of us....Had a 2000 Intrepid, bought new-ran, drove and rode
like a Caddy--I personally changed the oil and filters so it was well
maintained..At 128,000 the engine went south--never another Dodge on this
hill..To each his own..

Have a 85 awaiting money. Wrist pin started making noise so parked it. 318 carb, auto, 4x4 with after market lock-outs, wing windows and bench seat.

First gen for Chrysler pickups with the
ram symbol on the hood I believe. This
ones an '84. Odometer has rolled over
a couple times, I'm guessing 228,xxx
miles on it, so the engine uses a bit
of oil, but other then that no issues.

I had a 85 dodge 1 ton 4x4. What a piece of junk. It had that vacume actuated front end on it when you shifted into 4 wheel drive. What a joke. Couldn't give me another.

Just an interesting thought 40 yrs ago if one had an engine that made 128000 mile you figured it was a pretty darn good one of course now days not. I remember back when I got my brand new 1967 Barracuda 273 the spark plugs points & condenser all got changed every 10000 miles and if you had a set of tires that made 12 / 13000 mile they were good. I think somethings have changed for the better.

"I've never owned a Chrysler product. Dunno why. They are good machines."

I agree. They were great machines back in the day.
They lost out because they were utilitarian and didn't change.
They did not have all the creature comforts that Ford and Chevy
were innovating during that time.

Now they have, and now I wouldn't buy one of their new ones.
My dad retired from Chrysler. The discount would be nice.
If they ever decide to build a decent truck again.

Tracto-man, let me know if you need any parts for it.
I don't have a lot of them left around; but I certainly have
some odds and ends left around here after all these years.
Trans, mirrors, bolts, brackets, etc.

Even have a ThermoQuad up on the shelf.
Not that you'd need that for a 318, but I have at least half
a dozen Carter's up there with the Chevies and Fords.

I have owned Dodge trucks for the last 20 years and had the same feelings. However my current 2004 4X4 Quadcab 1500 with AT and 5.7L Hemi is a very solid truck. It's vastly more "refined" than the older trucks and wasn't what I wanted but I was in a bind and needed a replacement ASAP so I bought it anyway. As it turns out it is a very comfortable and reliable truck and has given me way less problem than the older "utlitarian" models I have owned. At 175K it's barely broken in ;-) The only issue I have had is the pinion shaft nut. The factory install has a bad reputation for working loose and if not caught and fixed when it first starts making noise the result is not pretty

YMMV,
