IGNITION KIT FOR FRONT DIST

Got the ignition kit from YT yesterday and was installing the ignition point contacts in the distributor and while installing the condenser and flat
conductor I saw that the insulator in the points was a soft plastic that had moved out of place and shorted out the points. Took the points back out
and saw that the conductor with the screw hole had squeezed through the soft plastic conductor. Had to go to town and bought a set of "Blue Streak"
points from the parts place where I normally buy parts. They were $16. The kit from YT was less than $10. I guess you get what you pay for. I just
hope the condenser from YT is good.

Had same luck at OReilly--One would not adjust-screw slot was not long enough and another set was shorted out where the two pieces pivot..went to Napa and got some there and they were fine..The folks across the big pond probably have never seen a set in use so most likely their quality is "if it looks like one, it is one"

I buy my front mount kits from Orchelns farm store. Kit costs $20. I've not had any problems. My last kit was in my 9n for 13 years. Was still working fine when I replaced them.

I bought a set of Standard points 2 years ago for one of my 8N's. Being in a rush I put em in, set the gap and away I went........but not for long :x ! The face of the points were only making contact on about 1/2 the surface. I didn't notice it till after they burned up! Didn't even get 6 hours out of em. The tractor is now EI!

Today I tried to install the 12 volt coil I got from YT. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it to go down far enough to push the bail over the top of it. Finally got out my caliper and measured the half circle that goes around the high tension spring at front of coil. The loop was about 1/8" too narrow to go over the raised portion of the distributor cap where the high tension stud is located. Had to get out my Dremmel too and grind off some of the inside of the raised half circle so it would fit over the raised part of the distributor cap. Finally got it going. Started right up faster than in months and ran great. I didn't remove any resistor and it runs great so far. We'll see when a load is applied to it. The coil and the condenser was all I could use from the kit. The rotor was wobbly on the shaft too so I use the old one that didn't seem to have anything wrong with it. It's getting harder and harder to get good parts for these old good and faithful servants.
