Removing 9n/2n Generator (again!)

Folks, I've already reviewed the 2015 discussion about removing the generator from a 9n/2n, but I'm still stuck and hoping you can help me out.

The bolt with the tensioner spring doesn't turn more than a few rotations before wanting to stop, and neither direction seems to loosen the belt (at least enough that I can tell).

1. There was a mention in the previous thread about a cotter pin. Is there indeed something I have to remove/adjust before I can loosen the belt with that tensioner belt?

2. Can someone definitively say which direction I need to turn the bolt to loosen it?

I actually did this on the same tractor ~30 years ago, and just don't remember... :)

Thanks!
Steve

Suspect that captive nut in head bracket may not be captive anymore & just spinning with bolt.

You would tighten the bolt (C/W) to loosen the belt. Just grab the head of the bolt with vise grips and pull to compress the spring, this will let the bolt and nut come out of the bracket, cock the bolt toward the front and release, you can then push the generator in to remove the belt.

Thanks all! So if the captive nut isn't captive, I can just pull it outward and angle it forward to take off the tension? I haven't been able to find a good diagram of this assembly, so in my mind's eye I'm guessing at what's back there at the head.

K, so "captive" was a bad choice of words. It is removable, but designed so as not to twist around & around when you tighten/loosen tensioning bolt.
