hydraulic problems after rebuild

Need help, I have completely rebuilt my 1948 8n hydraulics new cylinder, new pistion, and a rebuilt pump. New fluid for tractor supply that was documented to met ford specs. Lift appears to work fine. However I left it in barn with arms up and two weeks later the arms had leaked down. What could still be wrong I have changed everything? I'm at a lost to explain. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking may need thicker fluid, any suggestions on that?

Thanks for any help

old8owner......yer kidding, eh? Them's BRAGGIN' NUMBERS. Donna mucka 'round. LEAVER-BEE.......sheesh, the amazed Dell

Wasn't kidding I had expected it would stay up. Based on feedback guess I'll wait see how well it works after its hot with disk. Rebuilt because it wouldn't lift disk once it was hot. When took it all apart all components were really scored from dirty fluid. However, it seemed to stay up for weeks before.

A good habit to get into is to lower the lift before you get off the tractor. It's a safety thing. Hqd a buddy who got his foot caught under a heavy implement. Could have been a child or a pet. Even my modern Kubota will leak down in two weeks.

 ken. saturday night live did a great version of those ads. if it stays up for more than 4 hours... call all your friends and brag about it.

A good hydraulic system will sustain a load in the 'UP' position for weeks, if not months, seriously. Did you recheck for piston/leaks at the cylinder? Did you use the newer NAA piston with rubber O-RING and leather wiper/backup washer? Is the wiper installed on the right side of the groove? The NAA-530 piston is a better replacement part for ALL N's who used the three-steel ring piston prior to. Which did you use? If it took two weeks to leak down, I'd leave it alone...

At IH dealer I worked a child was almost killed when his brother lowered a loader on him. After that leaving any equipment parked without lowering everything was a FIRING offense. You never know when boys will be boys.

Guess I should have said there was no implement on the tractor. It's the arms lowering after a week or two. I never leave any implement up when tractor's not running.

That would make a difference with no load .

There are a few places that the pressure could leak off . For starters you can remove a side cover and see if you have a drip from the lift cylinder . It should be more noticeable if you have a heavy implement .

You can place a hose over the end of the pressure reliefe valve to see if it is leaking off there .

You could have some trash in the pump valves .

How quickly does it leak down with a heavy load ?
