Side mount converted to front mount?

I came across [b:5be2afe549]this[/b:5be2afe549] ad on Craigslist. Looks like it was a side mount
block converted to use a front mount distributor.
I still haven't figured out why someone would do that unless they
had all the parts available and wouldn't have to spend any money.
And, of course, they didn't have side mount parts.

Either way, I just don't see how the ends justify the means. Why hassle?

(quoted from post at 10:39:43 05/23/17) Am I missing something, don't see features of it being a side mount block.

Timing marks hole on bellhousing.

I have a 52 with an industrial motor that has a magneto, the block was a side mount block also. The magneto requirees the front dist drive mounting area.

Timing marks hole is not very visible to my eyes, but I notice the more reward location of the oil fill tube & with a bit of photo manipulation, think I see left side generator mount bosses.

I'm guessing it was a front mount originally and someone replaced
the block with the later style. Reusing the original front mount
parts.
