Weird sparkplugs setup on 8N

Sparkplugs no. 3 and 4 on this 8N don't go straight into the head--they go into a "riser" that is screwed into the sparkplug holes. What's going on here? Is that normal?
Thanks much for any help.

Anti-fouler. Lengthens heat path out of plug, causing them to run at much higher temperature to burn off oil from a worn out engine, so plug can still fire.

Exactly what Geiger said, ran a TO30
Ferguson for a short while with them and
then had to do a rebuild, my Fergie got
so bad that it was fouling the plugs
with the plug extensions....

Thanks for the link.

Unlike many/most snake oil "fixes" from times past, anti foul adapters do, indeed, work.

I was unaware that they were still available.

(quoted from post at 11:37:37 05/21/17) Take the risers out, they may be what is causing #3 and 4 to not fire. May be full of carbon.

Ahah! Now THAT would be too good to be true--I'll try it!

(quoted from post at 20:42:37 05/21/17) Those are markers for cylinders with bad rings.

Are valves out of adjustment causing incomplete combustion.

I've never checked the valves--how often should one check them on an 8N?
