It s the rope seal

OK so I took it apart and retorqued the main bearings and it turned over like a dream, I went and helped my brother move a few dozen bee hives and came back about 2 hours later and it is locked up tight. I loosened the rear main and it spun just like it is supposed to do. I soaked the seal over night in oil before I put it in and I put it up with the same assembly lube I always use. Anyone ever run into this?

Skip, did you tap/form the rear seal in place with a big 3/4 drive socket the same/close size as the crank, and a hammer to form it in place both block and main cap, before trimming the seal ends off?

Grandpa farmed 3/4 section with a 8n. He overhauled it several times. Dad said they had to pull start it the first each time because of the tight fitting rope seals.
