keeping the starter together

Knowing how tricky it is to put a starter back together if you let it come apart, I wonder if this would make sense when replacing your starter: Before removing the nuts on the long bolts that hold it together, wrap some tape around it end-to-end. That would be to hold it all together til you get the thing into position on the tractor and get the bolts started into the tractor. Then remove the tape. Does that make sense?

Unnecessary

robably does for some, but apparently not for jimtrs.

I got enough of the junk factory fall apart starters and replaced mine with one of the mini high torque starters. Havent had any problems since.

Never had one come apart while installing, done it many many times. Now while removing, that's another story.

I find it simple to loosen both long bolts, move starter out 1/4 - 1/2 inch and put a nut on the one of the bolts. Tighten it and the starter is secure.
