I just bought my first 8N (1952). Haven't used one since I was a teenager (now 41).

I bought it to dig post holes.

Should I attach the upper arm of the post hole digger to points #2 or #3? I read about not using #1

I know farther out on the upper arm to yoke attachment itself will give me more lift leverage and nearer to the tractor will give me more lift height.

I can't figure out what the differences would be between #2 and #3 top link attachment holes....

Thank you for your time and experience...

Should be fine on 2 or 3, I'm very
curious tho what your number 4 is, never
saw a bracket like that is it for some
special attachment?

Most everything uses #1 Plow used #2 cultivator #3 and #4 was for sickle mower that nobody uses or maybe even has. Been wrong someone may be still usuing one.

You fellows need to check out your info. Plowing/heavy draft implements the top link goes in the hole directly behind the spring.Cultivator and lighter draft implements, the top link goes in the second or top hole depending how responsive you want the draft control responding.

greed & anything that you don't need draft for needs to go in the bottom #3.

my understanding was #4 was for implements that did not require draft control.
example mowing machine, post hole digger, 3 point hitch rake,

I could be wrong on this, but looks like a good idea, use #4 rather than use the draft control hitch for items that were not ground engaging tools.

i wish i could find it now, but i really enjoyed it when someone asked what the upper holes were for, and got a reply of something like "they're for breaking stuff."

Thank you for the replies. Got it in hole #3 but the post hole digger lower yoke is too short so I am dragging the tip of the auger.

I wish the lower arms had another set of holes so I could change out the pivot point and lift it higher.

Going to try drilling one more hole in the upper arm of the post hole digger. We'll see...
