Hi Folks

New to tractors here and I really appreciate your help. Just a few questions.

I have a tractor Serial Number is a "631" above the number
(diamond) 167974 (diamond)
I shop Tractor Supply or AutoZone or Walmart

1. What year is my tractor.
2. What type/Weight of Transmission Fluid do I use?
3. What type/Weight of Hydraulic Fluid do I use?
4. What type/Weight of Oil do I use? (Central Texas area)
5. Does anybody know where I can just buy the Hydraulic pump gaskets (to mount the pump)
5. What size of engine is it? I think its a 48.7 Horsepower
6. It does have a PTO so I am not sure it it was added aftermarket?
7. Would a Phram PH8 oil filter be ok to use?
8. What repair manual should I order?

Any other information, suggestions, knowledge you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Juan

Go to ethis site: http://www.oldfordtractors.com/idhistory.htm

to figure out what you have and then buy the manuals for your tractor.

"What type/Weight of Hydraulic Fluid do I use?"

Anything that says it meets Ford 134d specs.

Is use 15w40 in my 641. Should be the same engine. It does not have 48 hp, probably a tad over 30.

I am away from my manual at present so someone will have to tell you which one(s) to get.

Most of your questions are answered in the 75 Tips.

John Smith's site will help you ID your tractor.

" I shop Tractor Supply or AutoZone or Walmart"

You'll need to change your shopping habits. Other than fluids, 95% of the tractor parts they sell are off-shore over-priced junk.

Get new parts here or from Jst8N's.

Use one oil in the trans, hydraulic reservoir and rear end. Look for a generic HyTrans or UTF (universal tractor fluid) at your local tractor emporium. Make sure it reads suitable for Ford 134D in the fine print on the label. Use this same stuff in your power steering if you have it.
Most here with those tractors use a 15W40 diesel rated oil for the engine.
Buy the single gasket to mount the pump on the engine at New Holland dealer. Buy the square cut Orings you need for the hyd manifold at the same time. Tell them you have a 631 and they will know what you need.
PH8 is correct filter.
But I prefer filters from Napa.
Buy I&T FO-20 manual. Available from this great site.
That engine is a 134 CI ohv Red Tiger. It might make 48 hp at the flywheel. But tractors are rated at the pto shaft - After all the parasitic losses from pumps, gears, friction, etc.
I think yours is about 33 or 34 hp which is plenty for that platform.
They are great, reliable, nimble, handy machines.
Don't forget that this is the N Series board.
The main Ford board is at the link below.
